| The pricey St. Andrews prep school in Middletown, like so many private schools and universities, faces the competition for students with, among other strategies, aesthetically pleasing campus enhancements such as this SRS-supported deck on one of its buildings. The project required a number of core-drilled holes for railing uprights; when designing for this circumstance, remember that, while the uprights themselves must not be installed until after the paver deck is in place, the base fixtures for them must be installed prior to the deck work so that core-drilled holes can be accurately located. These base fixtures must, of course, not extend vertically higher than bottom-of-paver elevation; since the uprights will usually be at the deck perimeter, where available vertical space is least, some anticipatory attention should be paid to this situation. |
