CURRENT SRS SPECIFICATION
SRS SPEC AS MICROSOFT WORD DOCUMENT
NOTE TO DESIGN PROFESSIONALS

When selecting slab paver materials to be installed on SRS or any pedestal system, those materials
should always have the following characteristics:
1) 1/16" (or better) dimensional tolerances in all three dimensions.
2) 8000 (or better) psi compressive strength.
3) 1,000 pound (or better) center point load strength [ASTM].

When selecting interlocking-size ("brick" size) pavers for SRS / Modified For Small Pavers, these
elements are important, and the following elements must be included as well:
1) Pavers must have spacer lugs of a dimension equal to the desired joint.   If substantially distressed
("tumbled") pavers are used, lugs may not be necessary, but the total surface area of open joints -
through which water drains - may be unpredictable.
2) Do not specify any of a certain few paver types which have opening, wedge shaped joints, such as
some versions of Classico pavers.   This is because joints wider than 3/16" can become a high-heel
hazard (on pedestals, on a deck, the joints of pavers are
not filled because they are an integral part of
the drainage flow).

accommodate anticipated pedestrian loads.
2. All waterproofing, flashing, caulking, insulation, drainage mats and protection board materials, as well
as the waterproofing of all deck penetrations, shall be determined and installed in accordance with
waterproofing manufacturer's recommendations.

PART 3.00 - EXECUTION

3.01 INSPECTION:
A. Examine all surfaces to receive the work specified herein.  Verify all dimensions of existing and
subsequent construction and compare layout of deck to shop drawings and architect's drawings.  All
variances of field conditions from drawings shall be reviewed and corrected prior to the installation of the
paving slabs.  Notify the Contractor in writing of any conditions detrimental to the proper and timely
completion of the work.  Do not proceed with the work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.02 PREPARATION:
A. Barricade or otherwise isolate work area during paving slab installation and sealing.  Keep barricades
in place until the entire pavement is fully installed and complete.
B. Lay out pattern in straight courses, symmetrical about centerlines and
correctly terminated at all edges.  Maintain alignment and patterns as shown on plans and details.

3.03 INSTALLATION:
A. Preparation:
1. Prior to placing the SRS Leveling System and the concrete paving slabs, remove all foreign materials
from the deck.  Sweep the protection/insulation layer with a broom to ensure deck is clean.
2. Ensure that all waterproofing, insulation and protection layers are secure and are laying flat with no
pumping or movement of the layers from pedestrian traffic.
B. General:
  1. Paving slabs shall be free from stain, dirt, or dust.
2. Install paving slabs with skilled mechanics and employ skilled fitters at the site for necessary field
cutting as units are set.
C. SRS Leveling System:
1. Using a laser leveling system, establish and mark the finished elevation of the plaza deck.
2. Establish and mark the top elevation of the SRS leveling blocks by subtracting the nominal thickness of
the overlying concrete pavings slabs from the finished elevation of the plaza deck.
  3. Identify and transfer the layout of the paving slabs to the top l                        layer of the protection /
insulation board.
4. Center and adhere the SRS leveling blocks at the intersections of the X and Y axis.
5. Level the SRS blocks using the patented SRS Leveling System, as per licensor's recommended
procedures / installation manual.
6. Transfer paving slab layout to the tops of the leveled SRS blocks.
  7. Install SRS spacing tabs at the intersections of the X and Y axis.
8. Place SRS leveling blocks tight against parapets and structural walls.  Field cut SRS leveling blocks at
the appropriate angle, if required, to accommodate any deck elevation variation at the deck perimeter or
at structural walls.
9. Install and level primary and secondary SRS leveling blocks with traversing piece where SRS leveling
block locations occur over deck drains, as per licensor's recommended procedures / installation manual.
10. Adjust paving slabs and SRS leveling blocks as per licensor's recommended procedures / installation
manual to maintain slab-to-slab tolerance of 1/16" or less.
11. Adjust paving slabs as required to maintain 1/8" or 3/16" +- 1/16" straight joints.
12. In the case of variable-thickness natural stone pavers or other poor-thickness tolerance pavers,
pillows of non-adhesive mortar may be used to accommodate the tolerances.

3.04 CLEANING:
A. Remove and replace paving slabs which are chipped, broken, stained or otherwise damaged, and
re-set units that rock or do not match adjoining units as specified.        Provide new units to match
adjoining units and install in the same manner as original units with the same joint spacing to eliminate
evidence of replacement.
B. After completion of the work, clean exposed surfaces as necessary.  If a cleaning solution is used,
verify with solution manufacturer that product is compatible with the paver, polystyrene foam, protection
board, and waterproofing.  Pressure washers, when using higher-pressure nozzles, may leave indelible
marks on concrete pavers.

3.05 PROTECTION:
A. After installation and cleaning, protect work from damage during subsequent construction activities
until work is completed.
B. At completion of construction work, remove all temporary protection from the site.
C. Clean up and remove all debris and equipment.
