| At the Sonat / Amsouth Plaza in Birmingham, SRS pedestals were cut-in 5/8" lower than bottom-of-paver elevation in order to accommodate the insertion, on the top of the pedestals, of single Hanover octagonal leveling plates, which were then effectively acting as spacer tabs. This was done to satisfy single-source warranty language requiring the inclusion of a manufacturer's pedestal. For a standard pedestrian application using square slab pavers in a stacked pattern, such a modification still provides a comfortable warrantability cushion. However, in general it should not be specified, because the modification 1) reduces the footprint through which loads are transmitted and 2) reduces the amount of the paver corner being supported. |
